This item arrived in excellent shape, appears to be of good quality, cooks and warms very well and I really like the seperate cooking pot and heating unit for clean up as I can put the pot in the dishwasher. The downside to the unit is it has no warrenty that I can find and no return policy from the seller that I can find, so I hope the unit lasts.

I acquired an All-Clad Slow Cooker about 6 months ago and was pleased enough the couple of times I used it. About two weeks after that I got the Zojirushi Electric Skillet. Having used it extensively over the past half year, I think it should be called something other than an electric skillet. It is so versatile.
That All-Clad Slow Cooker I mentioned has sat unused all this time. I turn up the heat on my Zoji, brown the beef, deglaze and add the other ingredients, then I turn down the heat and use it to slow cook while I am at work. I come home to a wonderful meal, and as others have said in their reviews... when it comes time for clean-up it is so easy. First off, I only had to use the Zoji for all of the cooking. The Zoji almost comes clean by just thinking it. The dish and utensils take way more time than the Zoji. This is the most amazing non-stick surface I have seen, and I have Calphalon and other top-brand non-stick cookware. It just wipes clean with a paper towel, and I mean it looks like "brand-new clean" even after six months of use. Brand new clean, still slick to the touch as if you have to "wash before first use".
The temparture adjustment gives you very fine control over the heat. And it goes from just warming, through slow cooking, up to sizzling hot frying.
The lightweight bowl lifts out while the heavy heating plate diffuses for great cooking and temparture control.
One of two countertop cooking appliances I do not ever want to be without. (The other is a Flavorwave (by Thane) halogen convection oven, that is likewise incredibly versatile). In a small apartment where space is a premium, these two will serve you well for just about every cooking need. Even if you have a huge kitchen, this appliance will save you time and energy while also saving you on energy costs. Beside all that, it is just plain fun to use it. Keep it visible and think of it first when cooking anything. Chances are it will do the job quickly and efficiently with super easy clean-up.

This skillet is such a big improvement over traditional electric skillets.
1) Size is perfect for a small family. Deep sides mean you can cook a variety of things.
2) Super easy clean-up, because the skillet separates from the base. You can submerge the skillet part in water if you need too, and it's easy to move around in your sink (as opposed to the large, awkard skillets that you have to try to clean--base and all--without screwing up the electrics.)
3) I've cooked a variety of meals in this--braised short ribs, chili, omelets, etc. Heat is very even, though you need to watch things because even the simmer setting can cook a bit harder than you might want (I would not consider this a replacement for a slow cooker).
4) The base stays VERY cool while you are cooking, and the handles on the skillet are designed so that you can grasp them without hotpads.
5) So far, non-stick surface is holding up very well. My last Presto skillet had the surface start flaking off on us--and I did not abuse it in any way. Had to toss it out after only a year. This surface seems designed to take a beating, as they say you can use any type of utensil in it (though I mainly use my non-stick spatulas & spoons).
Update:
In February 2009 (5 months after purchasing) I noticed the nonstick finish on the bottom of the pot started developing "blisters". First I noticed one small spot that looked like it had developed a bubble and some of the finish peeled off of it. After using it a couple more times, I saw other small areas where the finish appeared to be blistering.
I contacted Zojirushi and they responded very quickly to my e-mail. They offered to replace the pan if I paid $10 for shipping. All I had to do was provide a copy of my receipt. I did not have to send anything back to them, and the process was very quick and painless. Since then, I have had no problems and my original rating stands. Zojirushi also gets 5 stars for customer service.

So perfect for cooking for at least a family of four. I absolutely LOVE this skillet. Non- stick, easy clean up. Dishwasher safe. I had "dried-on" cheese in this skillet overnight, and it came off with NO effort! I would love a dozen of these. Do not give this product a second thought about getting, just get it!

After doing some online research and finding that using an electric skillet is more energy efficient than an electric stove I decided to buy one. This looked like the best deal anywhere, yes it is pricey, but, I feel worth the price.
I've never used an electric skillet before so am having fun getting to know it. I love that I can remove the pan for cleaning, and this cleans incredibly fast!
As another reviewer remarked, the size is practical for a one or two person household. It depends on what you want to cook, it's plenty big enough to make scrambled eggs or a side dish for a large family, but would be too small for a big pot of chili for more than four. As for pancakes, if you keep them small, 5" - 6" across, that should work.
